Color My World ARTS Academy is a K-12 visual arts and cultural enrichment program featuring teaching artist, Kathryn Benton. Kathryn’s experience in teaching visual arts in schools and global arts in museums in Chicago and Denver inspired her to partner with our local Arts center to offer small studio type classes in drawing, painting, clay sculpting, mixed media, and global arts. Kathryn’s onsite classes and traveling global art workshops help children and teens discover, explore and enrich their lives through visual arts and cross-cultural understanding. Students that have consistently attended Kathryn’s classes over several years have gradually grown from beginner artists to advanced level artists Many of her students have exhibited their work, won art awards and scholarships from their communities and schools and have decided to major in visual arts at the university leve

KinderART: Beginning Drawing & Painting Series (Ages 3,4,5,6) Saturdays 11 am-12 Noon. This class is a great way for young children ready to learn to draw and paint with focus. Drawing pencils, colored pencils, oil pastels, and water color paints will be used in this series. We ask that students be able to sit at the art table for one hour, focus, listen and follow simple directions. 12 one hour classes. $150 for AIB members; $200 for nonmembers, instruction and all supplies included. Saturday series begins on Feb 3.

Canvas Painting Series
, Our most popular series! Canvas painting is a process; usually taking 2-3 one-hour sessions to complete an 8 x 10 canvasThis series teaches the necessary skills, techniques and color theory to advance as a painting artist. 12 one hour classes. $150 for AIB members; $200 for nonmembers, instruction and all supplies included.
Tuesday classes begin on Feb 6th; Wednesday classes begin on Feb 7th

Our drawing series offers step by step lessons and visual inspiration along with the necessary techniques to gradually advance as a pencil artist.

Abstract and Design Drawing 
Thursdays beginning on Feb 8th from 6:30—7:30 pm Intermediate-Advanced: Ages 10-Teens
A whimsical drawing class for students who love to draw unique and unusual designs and abstract themes. Students will explore drawing with pencil, design ink pens, plus use colored pencils to add vibrant color.

Watercolors, Ink, Pastel and Color Pencil
, Thursdays beginning Feb 8th from 7:30—8:30 pm Intermediate-Advanced: Ages 10-Teens
A popular class for students wanting to explore these exciting color mediums; while learning unique techniques, and creating works of art ready for framing.
12 one hour classes. $150 for AIB members; $200 for nonmembers, instruction and all supplies included.

Clay Studio for Kids, Beginner-Intermediate, Wednesdays beginning Feb 7th 7:30- 8:30 pm: Ages 7-12
Students will love exploring the world of clay as they make unique pottery pieces. Please note: As we have no space for a kiln; we air dry our clay and paint pieces with acrylics. Kneading earthen clay and forming it is hard work for little hands-so it’s best to wait until your child is at least 7 years of age.
12 one hour classes. $150 for AIB members; $200 for nonmembers, instruction and all supplies included.

  • This series involves a 12-week commitment as each week’s lesson builds upon the last and emphasizes new techniques and artistic guidance.

  • We also offer Saturday ART in the AFTERNOON classes by reservation and private drawing and painting lessons by appointment.
